Jur Shital also known as Jud Shital is the holly festival of Mithila in Madhesi as well as in Tharu community. Maithili calendar begins on the same date, with Baishakh as first month of the year. It is also observed by most traditional calendars in India too, as in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Bengal, Kerala, Manipur, Orissa, Punjab and Tripura.
